This is a new Google Gadget. Bit of a cheeky one, as this is a clone of my Net Meter gadget, but with a different way of presenting the information. The gadget shows a pair of dials to indicate the upload and download speeds, and has a kinds shiny Vista Aero look to it. I could have made this a part of the my original Net Meter gadget as an alternative display mode or something, but in the end decided to make it a separate gadget.
Download - Net Meter Dial Edition - v1.6.2
Features
- Realtime view of your data upload & download speeds
- Auto adjust to the maximum speed your connection is capable of
- Supports kilobits and kilobytes (Kbps and KB/s)
- Keeps track of the total download and upload volumes
Support
Note: This requires Google Desktop to be installed, and it will only work on Windows XP or later as it uses some newer WMI classes to get the information. Gadget has been tested on XP & Vista.
If you are running XP or Vista and you still see an error about “Win32_PerfFormattedData_Tcpip_NetworkInterface” when starting the gadget then please run the following command “wmiadap /f” and remove & re-add the gadget.

Hi Ben,

but when i double-click on them a message
appears i need GoogleDesktop5 as minimum
( i use Google Desktop 5.1.0709.19590-de-pb)
for example and i should DL it from here: http://google.desktop.com/
but this is NOT the original Google Desktop!!! This
is the Desktop of Idealab, which uses the Google Name
what is is going on here???
Michael
Running same Google Desktop version as Michael and getting same messages. Any resolution as I am confused on just what version 5 is supposed to be?
Your original Net Meter was installed from Google’s add gadgets in taskbar but it was lost (my fault. I cannot find this version in their displayed gadgets list. Any suggestions on how I can get the old version until the problem with the new version is corrected? Did it possibly have a different name? What category did Google assign to this gadget?
I relied heavily on the meter to determine if my system was still running. I use modem for Internet. Highspeed upgrade is in the works but there are complications indefinitely holding everything up.
Rich
Guys the message that says “You need Google Desktop 5″ is not my message it’s hardcoded by Google.
It should say “Google Desktop 5.7″ but I can’t change it.
Please upgrade to the new version of Google Desktop which is 5.7
Hello Ben,
I was wondering if you could add a feature say “reset at end of month”
This is particularly useful in UK where we have download caps of 2G or more.
Many thanks
Why does the animation seem to stop working after a while? It seems that resetting the max up/down levels gets it going again - but that means the auto-adjust doesn’t adjust down - only up?
Rgds
Jim
I was wondering how do you reset the Net Meter Dial? I did the reset button and NOTHING happened! Please help!!! Thanks for you time.

I use muli-port router on a 1.5 meg broadband, I like to watch useage and this works great!
I have a new computer and I installed net meter v1.6.2. Everything worked fine but after installing the rest of my programs I found net meter no longer functions. I don’t want to uninstall everything as that may not fix it and there are a lot of programs. Can you point me in the right direction to repair it? I’m on mobile broadban and it’s nice to check the meter and see if it’s working up to speed as signal strength affects kbps.
Thank-you
I really like your gadget. But I did see one minor spelling problem with the display. In bytes mode, on the dial surface it is displayed as xx GB and yy MB. This means it is Gigabits and Megabits. But it should have been GB and MB, Giga Byte and Mega Byte. Hopefully you can fix it with a small update to the gadget.
It is displayed in MB and GB. It should have been MB and GB. Sorry being a software engineer, it makes my head ache by seeing this minor mistake.
Great little gadget!! Just what I was looking for with a dial display which I find much easier to read at a glance.
Keep up the good work.
Don’t know whether it’s just on my machine, but netmeter dial edition is showing the download speed on both download & upload needles (& in the text display). I’ve got your none-dial edition installed as well, and that’s showing the two speeds correctly.
Hie Ben I’ve noticed that the gadget Net Meater Dial v.1.6.2 displays double the speed when you connect to the internet using Kyocera’s iBurst UTD via USB Port. I’m yet to investigate the UTC the UTU and the UTY, otherwise good job. Please investigate and let me know. Basically all these UTs use PPPoE
