iTunes 7 is out and it supports gapless playback. The bad news is this only works on 5th generation iPods (see this Apple support article). Boooo, the chances of this being rolled out to older iPods, somewhere around zero I’d guess.

Aye, its bollocks, they should be able to do this for all Ipods. I bought the Ipod Photo last year and already they appear to have dropped it like a lead ballon. Tossers
I’m guessing this gapless playback is an Apple format though, not MP3? Otherwise everyone else would be doing it! Can’t see I can be arsed to convert to an Apple only format for me ‘tunes, I might one day say “Fuck Apple” and go with someone else!
I don’t think the gapless is only for Apple format tracks.
When I installed iTunes7 it spent about an hour “analysing and processing tracks for gapless playback” or some such bollocks. And they playback gapless in iTunes
But I agree it’s 100% shite, I’ve been thinking about ditching Apple but I’ll wait until my 60Gb Photo packs it in, before I look around.
found your site googling jscrob to see if there were any updates anywhere.
i had the problem of shutting down itunes, half the time it does crash. which is stupid because there now on 7.0.1.
however, the gapless thing is worth the 3 hours it took to do it, it makes single track albums or progressive albums that blend to sound correct on the ipod.
i though it did work on older models though, i plugged in my brothers ipod which was set to manual, and it told me it was going through the ipod to set up gapless.
they should at least make their software stable though.
